- Where is Defend My Dividend active?
-
On behalf of utility employees, retirees and shareholders, as well as
its coalition partners, Defend My Dividend is focused
on building a nationwide grassroots effort that will unify our collective
voices in defense of the current tax rate on dividend income. The decision of
whether or not to extend the current tax rate beyond 2010 will be
determined by Congress, and, as such, our advocacy and educational outreach
will be directed to both chambers of the United States Congress and the
White House.
- Does Defend My Dividend only represent the utility industry?
-
Defend My Dividend is an advocacy campaign founded to educate and mobilize utility employees,
retirees and shareholders. Before Defend My Dividend,
millions of utility shareholders, many of whom own stock in utility companies through
401(k) plans, did not have a central place to go to get information and to take action on
this critical issue. Defend My Dividend has the support of utility companies and state
utility shareholder associations because it empowers its stakeholders with valuable tools to
educate and engage.
- What other organizations are part of the Defend My Dividend Coalition?
-
Defend My Dividend is a diverse and broad-based coalition, including the Minnesota Utility Investors Association, the American Gas
Association and the Edison Electric Institute. Each coalition partner is committed to

a unified voice in defense of the current maximum tax rate on dividend income.
